This Privacy Policy explains how VertiTech Innovations, LLC ("we", "us" or "our") collects, uses and shares personal information when you use Criminal Atlas (the "Service"). VertiTech Innovations, LLC, 131 Continental Dr, Suite 305, Newark, DE 19713, United States, is responsible for your personal information (the "controller").

By using the Service you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Service.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us:

Account information: your email address, and the language you use.

Game activity: the cases you play, your moves, answers, accusations, results, times, scores, medals, ranks, streaks and other progress.

Text you write: the questions you type to AI characters and any messages you send us.

Payment information, if you subscribe: processed directly by our payment provider, Stripe. We receive limited details such as the plan, status and the last digits of the card, never the full card number.

Information collected automatically:

Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, language, pages visited, dates and times, and error and security logs.

Cookies and similar technologies, as described in our Cookie Policy. Without an account, your Daily Case progress is stored only in your browser.

How you found us: the campaign, referral, promo code or website that brought you to the Service, saved with your account when you create it.

Usage analytics (Google Analytics): how you use the Service (for example, which cases you start and finish), to understand and improve it.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, and we ask you not to include it in anything you write in the Service.

2. How we use your information

To provide and operate the Service: create and secure your account, send sign-in codes, save your progress and results, run interrogations with AI characters and show your career.

To communicate with you: service emails and, unless you turn them off, notifications about the game and your activity (such as the new Daily Case each morning, new investigations, streak reminders and promotions).

To process payments and manage subscriptions, when available.

To keep the Service safe: prevent fraud, abuse, cheating and automated access, enforce our Terms and protect our rights and those of others.

To analyze, maintain and improve the Service, including game balance, statistics shown to players (such as percentiles, which use aggregated results) and new content.

To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

We do not use your information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you based solely on automated processing.

3. Legal bases (EEA and UK)

If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, we rely on: the performance of our contract with you (to provide the Service); our legitimate interests (to secure, analyze and improve the Service, prevent abuse and send notifications about your activity, which you can turn off at any time); your consent, where required (for example, for non-essential cookies), which you can withdraw at any time; and compliance with legal obligations.

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only with:

Service providers who process it on our behalf and under our instructions, such as: Vercel (hosting), MongoDB (database), Resend (email delivery), Cloudflare (bot protection and file storage), OpenAI (generating AI character replies from the text you type), Google (Google Analytics, usage analytics) and Stripe (payments and taxes).

Authorities or third parties when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of the Service, our users or others.

A buyer or successor in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of all or part of our business, which may continue to use your information under this Privacy Policy.

Others with your consent or at your direction (for example, when you share your results).

The results you share are shown without spoilers and without your email address. Percentiles and statistics shown to other players are aggregated and do not identify you.

5. International transfers

We are based in the United States and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose data protection laws may differ from those of your country. When we transfer personal information from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the providers' certifications.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is active and as long as needed for the purposes described above. When you delete your account from your profile, we delete your account, your progress and your notification settings, except information we must keep to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or enforce our agreements, and backups, which are overwritten on their regular schedule. Technical logs are kept for a limited time.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can delete your account and turn off notification emails yourself from your profile at any time.

To make any other request, write to support (at) criminalatlas.com from the email address of your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we may decline requests where the law allows. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

California residents: in the last 12 months we have collected identifiers (such as email and IP address), internet or network activity, and inferences about game performance, for the purposes described in this policy. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not use sensitive personal information.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, such as encrypted connections, hashed sign-in codes and access controls. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at support (at) criminalatlas.com and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, may also notify you by email or in the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect means you acknowledge the updated policy.
